Where we come from

Part of the Himalayan Discovery Group

The Wondring Himalaya is the newest company under the Himalayan Discovery Group of Hotels and Travel Services— a Kinnaur-based hospitality and travel business with 25+ years in the market and 10,000+ clients served. The group’s long-standing hotel and guide network across Kalpa and Sarahan is the same network we draw on for our Kinnaur stays.

Bringing a new, independently run company into a 25-year group means we inherit real operational experience — hotel relationships, local guide networks and on-ground logistics — while building our own identity and standards from day one.

Meet the founder

Yashita Thakur

Yashita is the founder of The Wondring Himalaya and the daughter of Laik Ram Thakur, owner of the Himalayan Discovery Group. She runs the company alongside her college studies — managing staff, guiding trip logistics and personally checking hotel and staff standards. Every major decision is made jointly by Yashita and her father.

Why our trips cost what they do

We’re built around premium experiences, not budget travel: handpicked stays, closer attention to service, and hands-on quality checks on every property we send guests to. That’s a deliberate choice, and it’s reflected in the price — we’d rather run fewer trips done properly than cut corners to compete on cost.

On our Spiti and Kinnaur routes you stay in hotels we own or work with directly, travel with experienced driver-guides, and carry oxygen and a first-aid kit on every trip. Prices are published, with 5% GST shown before you pay.
